Funding Hope for Children with Neuroblastoma

Giselle Sholler, M.D., with a patient
The Penelope & Sam Fund for Neuroblastoma Research at the Vermont Cancer Center offers hope to children and families around the world who are coping with a particularly deadly form of children's cancer. Each year, approximately 650 children in the United States are diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that has only a 30% 5-year survival rate. Each year, a relapse occurs in 70% of high-risk patients who have been treated for the disease. These relapses have proven fatal almost all the time. At the Vermont Cancer Center, Dr. Giselle Sholler, a pediatric oncologist and assistant professor of pediatrics, is attracting patients from around the world for her innovative clinical trials. The Penelope & Sam Fund provides ongoing funding for Dr. Sholler's clinical trials and her basic science.
